10.  Planning for Technology Integration

There is nothing that I would change about the way Valley Oaks makes effort to integrate technology into the classrooms, however there are a few things I would like to add.  One addition would be that all teachers make greater effort to utilize the one or two computers that they do have in their classrooms, instead of waiting to use the computer lab to integrate technology.  In the classes that I have observed, I have not seen much student use at the classroom computer.  On occasion, when the teachers may have given the students opportunity to use the computer for an activity, the students did not take advantage of it.  The teachers mostly use the computers in the classroom for lesson planning, recording grades, reports, and checking school email accounts.  I think that those computers could be utilized more often in classroom instruction.  Another addition would be to encourage the teachers to develop classroom websites.  I think this is a great idea since so many students at Valley Oaks do have computers and internet access at home.  It can be very effective for the parent who is always busy or on the internet!  It is a wonderful way to further extend what is happening in the classroom to parents who are highly involved in their child’s education.  It could also motivate the parents who are not as involved, to become more active and involved in their child’s education.

Through the Technology Infrastructure Scavenger Hunt our group conducted at Valley Oaks, I have learned that integrating technology into the classroom is actually possible, and done on a weekly basis.  It has motivated and encouraged me to plan technology integrated lessons during student teaching and in my own classroom.
