Types of Technology:

Technology as Lesson Support is seen during my first activity when I use a T.V. and V.C.R. to show a brief clip from a movie which will help capture my student's attention.  Further, my lesson will be supported through technology when I use my SMART Board to display to the class a website that discusses pet overpopulation.

Technology as a Business Resource is seen in my second activity by having an Excel chart/graph already set up for the students.  The students will be able to open this file in Excel and input their data into the pre-made graph/chart.

Technology as Subject will occur during my fourth activity.  I will teach the students how to use digital cameras.  They will then take digital photographs of the homeless pets at the Houston SPCA.

Engauge 21st Century Skills:

Digital-Age Literacy: Students will already be literate in searching the internet.  The students will further practice this skill by researching on the internet pet overpopulation and its affects on the community.  Also, the students will become literate in using digital cameras.

Inventive Thinking: The students will demonstrate self-direction when they conduct their surveys in their respective neighborhoods.  The students will show their creativity when inserting their digital photographs into a photo gallery.  They will also show their creativity when designing the PowerPoint.

Effective Communication: The students will collaborate in teams of four or five.  They will use interpersonal skills to work together to complete the activities.  They will interact and communicate with family members, neighbors, and community members when conducting their surveys.

High Productivity: The students will use planning skills during the time when they are to conduct their survey.  They will need to decide whom they wish to survey (between family members, neighbors, community members, or all).  Because they will be doing this survey at home, they will need to decide on an appropriate time to conduct their survey (right after school, after dinner, or by telephone).  The students will also demonstrate their ability to produce a high-quality PowerPoint product.

Adaptations for students with special needs:

The students will be divided into groups of four or five.  I will group above grade level achieving students, below grade level achieving students, and students with special needs into the various groups.  This will give the students the opportunity to work together and help each other during the activities.  The above grade level achieving students can help the lower grade level achieving students and they can all work with and help the students with special needs.  By grouping the students in this way, the students will learn to respect and appreciate each other's differences and collaborate amongst each other.  I can also assign jobs such as note taker, researcher, and typist and then have the students trade the different jobs so that each student has the opportunity to participate in the various jobs.
