Process - “The Evaluation Process” Slides/Oct. 27, 2004 (Introduction to Teaching-Dr. Goodman) [see binder] Summary - These are slides detailing information about various tests, their requirements, advantages, and disadvantages. They were given in addition to lecture and discussion by Dr. Goodman in my Introduction to Teaching class. Rationale/Reflection - I felt these slides were very descriptive in their information regarding the assessment and evaluation of students’ work. The details given regarding the various criteria of the evaluation process and its actual implementation will be very helpful in determining the best testing strategies to use in my future classrooms. Product - “Bear Jeopardy” - The Bear Family Facts (Thematic Unit-Dr. Goodman) Summary - This product was created by me as an assessment tool to determine the comprehension and retention of knowledge by students being taught the various lessons of The Bear Family Facts unit. The questions contained in this game reflect the original objectives stated at the beginning of the unit. Rationale/Reflection - I chose this product due to its hands-on engagement for the students and I felt it to be developmentally appropriate for a first grade test. I feel using this type of assessment will allow all of the students the opportunity to answer questions regardless of the learning level. The assessment contains questions which are appropriate for lower-level learners as well as certain ones which will be answerable by gifted and talented students as well. I feel this product contains questions which the students will enjoy playing while being assessed through teacher observation and corresponding jottings of each students progress through the game. Performance - Weekly Spelling test (Mrs. Cook’s 3rd grade class-Reflection and Critique)Summary - This is a copy of the weekly spelling test given by me while in Mrs. Cook’s third grade classroom. Mrs. Cook’s evaluation of my performance of the test is attached. Rationale/Reflection - The rationale behind my choice of this document is its exact match to the competency to which it relates to. I felt this was a great opportunity to practice the process of giving a test in a verbal format. I was nervous with the morning class, but once I gave it again in the afternoon and observed the students writing the various stressed spelling words on paper I felt much more confident with the entire process. I thought it went well as I was giving a second different spelling test at the same time to a trio of different level learners. I feel this was a great experience for me to learn about the required spelling tests mandated by the school as well as the teacher-created spelling test for the different level learning students. |
