Process - Educational Law seminar hand-out - Dr. Fosse (Introduction to Teaching-Dr. Goodman) [see binder] Summary - This handout gives valuable information concerning teaching and the ethics and laws which accompany the profession. There are guidelines for spotting and reporting child abuse, searching students’ possessions, and the right to privacy by students in reference to their grades. Rationale/Reflection - I felt this to be the most appropriate piece of evidence for this competency as the handout and the seminar were directed at legal issues for beginning teachers. I learned valuable information about different areas which I did not know were regulated by Texas laws and felt this seminar to be very helpful. Product - “Survival Guide” booklet by Texas Classroom Teachers Association (www.tcta.org) [see binder] Summary - The booklet has information concerning both legal and ethical issues in Texas schools and is distributed by the TCTA. This booklet gives the beginning Texas teacher a great deal of information about Texas requirements and guidelines for student and teacher privacy and protection. Rationale/Reflection - The Survival Guide booklet is a great asset for the beginning teacher and as a result I felt it to be the perfect fit for this competency. The booklet has already been of use to me and will continue to be used during my student-teaching and in my future classrooms. I feel it is therefore the best piece of product evidence for this competency. Performance - Newsletter to Parents (Introduction and permission for students’ photographs) Summary - This newsletter contains a brief introduction of me and my assignment to Mrs. Ellison’s first grade classroom. I included a short explanation of the PUMA process and why I was requesting permission to photograph the students and their work for my portfolio. Rationale/Reflection - I chose this newsletter as performance evidence for this topic due to the school’s requirement of having parental permission for any photographs and displays of student work. This is needed in order to insure there are no future complaints concerning FERPA rights’ of students. |
