  SuperSonic Phonics from Curriculum Associates is designed for new readers (grades 1-3) or readers who need to strengthen their phonics skills and reinforce the application of word attack strategies to single words, sentences, and paragraphs. Students practice using word recognition and phonics skills, especially symbol-to-sound decoding skills. It is appropriate for students reading at the early elementary level. 

To try out this trial program, you must first run demo.exe in the programs/phonics/  subdirectory on ET-IT CD-ROM through File Manager or Windows Explorer.

  Creative Writer 2 from Microsoft is a combination word-processing and desktop publishing program designed specifically for children. It is available only for Windows. The program has many features that help students select a topic and then write about it. It is a very powerful, but easy to use, program. It will take a while to explore the demo version but Creative Writer 2 is a very good example of software created specifically to help children write about topics that interest them. 

To run the demonstration you will need to download the software from a Microsoft site and install the program on your computer.

  SimCity 2000 by Maxis (ages 09 to adult) is a software program that lets the users build their own dream city and and then try to administer the city so that it doesn't fall apart or get overrun by crime, pollution, or some other disaster. Users can built their city from a colorful variety of houses, businesses, infrastructure resources, and parks. And SimCity 2000 is open-ended -- players explore the fun and challenge of city planning as they add homes, business and recreation. 

To try out this trial program, you must install it on your computer's hard drive. To do that you must copy the folder called simcity to your hard drive. That folder is on the CD-ROM in the subdirectory called programs/simcity/. You might create a subdirectory on your computer named EDSoft (only if you do not already have one). Then you could copy simcity into the EDSoft  subdirectory. Once you have copied simcity over to your hard drive you can use the standard Windows procedure to install that program by clicking on setup2k.exe in the EDSoft/simcity/ folder on your hard drive. Then follow the directions on the screen.

With the arrival of new media, many classics of literature, as well as the work of several contemporary authors, have been produced in electronic book form. The Ugly Duckling from Morgan Interactive Software is one of these new media books. It takes full advantage of the multimedia and hypermedia capabilities of computers. It is nonlinear; it uses graphics, animation, and video; and it supports many types of interaction. 

To try out this demo program, you must first run tuddemo.exe in the programs/duck/  subdirectory on ET-IT CD-ROM through File Manager or Windows Explorer.

Physics by Pictures is an educational computer courseware for building the integral base of knowledge in the field of physics. The Physics by Pictures courseware is intended for schoolchildren with different levels of physics knowledge. It may be used both as a convenient reference book for first level of studying physics, and for deeper learning of physics. Some of the problems are intended for high level schoolchildren. 

This program includes colorful computer simulations from Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Molecular Physics, Electricity, Optics, Quantum Physics as well Historical Experiment examples, etc. The hypertext is used to ease learning physics. Some questions and different problems are included in this courseware. Some of the examples are designed as a flexible constructor, which allow to learners to develop different experimental schemas and to investigate them. There are also a calculator, lists of physics and mathematics formulae, tables of physical constants.

Talking Teacher is a set of four games for very young children that teaches letters, numbers and the use of the computer. The main screen gives a graphical representation of each game. Learners use mouse click to launch the chosen game. Each of the games is designed using sampled voices and colorful graphics. All of the games discourage "key pounding" by locking out the keyboard and mouse at certain times and responding more favorably to correct and/or valid inputs. After a while, the child will gain confidence in mastering the game itself.

The Magic School Bus Explores in the Age of Dinosaurs: School teacher Ms. Frizzle’s prized album is missing some special dinosaur snapshots. The program invites learners to travel back in time with her class to search for live dinos and help replace the photos. Users of the software just need to click the geologic time slider on the bus dashboard to go backward and forward in time. Software users may choose from 7 different locations in 3 prehistoric time periods. Once arrive, users may jump out of the bus and explore. Scholastic’s The Magic School Bus Explores in the Age of Dinosaurs is a fun-filled adventure. Science comes to life with narration, sound, video, and animation. There are over 15 games and activities, 8 sets of fun facts, and more than 20 multimedia reports. 

To run the Skeleton Puzzle Game included in The Magic School Bus Explores in the Age of Dinosaurs you will need to download the software from a Microsoft site and install the program on your computer.
