In "Educational Computing: Learning with Tomorrow's Technologies", Maddux, Johnson, and Willis (1997) describe Apple's (1992) comments on educational technology:

Currently, considerable pressure is building to have teaching and school curricula be totally prespecified and tightly controlled for the purposes of "efficiency," "cost effectiveness," and "accountability."... Given these pressures, what will happen to teachers if the new technology is accepted uncritically? One of the major effects of the current (over) emphasis on computers in the classroom may be the deskilling and depowering of a considerable numbers of teachers. (p. 67)
