Product 8: Microsoft Excel 4 Activities
1.) Pictograph: Click here This sort of graph can be used in many ways. One way could be polling your students about particular topics. I chose to make up a poll about the favorite types of reading by students in a class.
2.) M&M Graph: Click here
This graph shows data that was collected from a bag of M&M's. As a teacher you could find many ways to incorporate graphs like these. You could use a different type of candy or completely different topic.
3.) Weather Graph: Click here We had to create a weather graph for a given city. This is a graph of Little Rock, Arkansas during the week of December 1-5, 2003.
4.) Mail Merge: ** Click here: Final merged product (The letter) **Note that if you would like to view all 5 student letters you will have to have the Mail Merge toolbar visible. In Word, Click on View, Toolbars, Mail Merge. Then you can select the arrow that points to the left. (Looks like a sideways triangle without the blue stripe.) This allows you to view each letter. Otherwise you will only see the first letter. This is a way for teachers to input their grades from Excel directly into a letter from Word that can be sent home to parents to inform them of their child's progress.
These Excel activities show my ability to use Microsoft Excel using graphing techniques. These activities were a bit challenging considering I do not use Excel on a normal basis. I had a hard time with the weather graph. I could not get my data to plot correctly. I think these types of activities will be very useful in the classroom. The possibilities in which you can use them are endless. It can make your lesson a lot more lively and fun.
